The writer's retreat in the old stone barn

I am sad to say that the Mas Blanc Writer's Retreat has come to the end of its days... These past eight years have been happy ones for the old stone barn, temporary home to many wonderful writers from places as diverse as Cardiff, Montreal, Zurich and Leeds, writers whose work encompassed memoir, fiction, academic essays and business reports.

I have had the pleasure of  stimulating conversations during evening meals on such a wide range of topics that my own life has been immeasurably enriched.  Some writers came to spend a week or two, others returned -- year after year --  resulting in lasting friendships.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who shared your lives with me,  it has been a huge privilege to share Mas Blanc with you. However, the time has come for me to return to my native land and say farewell to France.

I like to think that the energy and creativity that was so much part of the Retreat will remain, in some invisible, silent, and profoundly beautiful way, and that whoever comes next to sit under the micocoulier tree will feel that magic.
